China has always opposed this and never recognised it, it said. The Chinese embassy’s statement described the position held by Zeya as “pure offense and a move of political manipulation to interfere in China’s internal affairs”. The US delegation included Donald Lu, assistant secretary for South and Central Asian affairs, US ambassador Eric Garcetti, and USAID deputy assistant administrator Anjali Kaur. He added that Zeya has been very active on Tibetan issues, including the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, since her appointment by the Biden administration.īesides Tsering, Norzin Dolma, the minister of information and international relations, Tencho Gyatso, president of the International Campaign for Tibet, and several senior Tibetan officials participated in the meeting. The Ukraine crisis also figured in the meeting and the Dalai Lama expressed his desire to see a weapons-free world, Tsering said. He added that the Dalai Lama had jokingly told Zeya that he is the “defence minister for India in the Himalayas” and that the “Buddhist community is the frontline defender for India”. “This comes at a time when Chinese Buddhists are devoid of spirituality,” Tsering said. Penpa Tsering, the political leader of the CTA who was part of the Dalai Lama’s delegation, said the discussions at the meeting centred around the need to preserve Tibet’s rich and valuable cultural heritage. “Xizang (Tibet) affairs are purely internal affairs of China and no external forces have the right to interfere,” it said.Ī post on Facebook by the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) said the Dalai Lama met a US delegation led by Zeya. If you knew that all your mental tweets are recorded and stored in this heavenly google and that you will ultimately re-live this script when your time comes to leave this Earth – would you think differently? Would you be more compassionate, more forgiving, more loving? Here is that point: if you knew that the Dalai Lama (or someone that you consider a spiritual authority) reads every thought that goes through your mind, would your thoughts be influenced? If you knew that your thoughts as you think them are appearing somewhere on a google screen in the heavens, would that change your thoughts? Still, there is a bigger point in the idea that the Dalai Lama follows me on Twitter (even if it is not him in person, but only one of his assistants). The unconscious intelligence that sits inside the collective space itself desires to move into the light of consciousness. We aspire to plug into some greater invisible power, communicate with it and tap the greater collective unconscious. We seek to be in conversation with people we admire, and with strangers. What is the Twitter phenomenon? Is it the ultimate form of democratization of discourse, where everyone, from the president to the janitor, can converse with everyone else (providing it is done in 140 characters)? What does it tell us beyond the fact that we all crave attention so much that we scream out into the void?ġ. Still, it occurred to me that something important is going on here. I think he would have to sacrifice his meditation time and other commitments. I doubt the Dalai Lama really follows so many tweets. The Dalai Lama follows 34,439 other people on Twitter or he did the last time I checked. ![]()
